Lane departure warning (LDW)
Alerts you when the car drifts out of its lane without a turn signal.
Lane departure warning uses a camera to track lane markings and alerts you, with a chime, vibration, or visual cue, when the car drifts over a line without the turn signal on. It targets drowsy and distracted drift-off-road crashes.
Related systems go further: lane keeping assist nudges the steering back toward the lane center. NHTSA records whether each model year offered these systems as standard or optional equipment.
