Transmission

The gearbox that matches engine speed to road speed: automatic, manual, or CVT.

The transmission sits between the engine and the wheels, using gears to keep the engine in its happy zone whether you are crawling in a parking lot or cruising at 75. Without it, an engine could not cover the full span of road speeds.

The main types are conventional automatics, continuously variable transmissions (CVTs), dual-clutch automatics, and traditional manuals. Each trades differently between smoothness, efficiency, and driver involvement.
