Rollover rating

NHTSA's star rating for rollover risk, based mostly on how top-heavy the vehicle is.

The rollover rating estimates the chance of a vehicle rolling over in a single-vehicle crash. It is computed mainly from the vehicle's geometry, how high its weight sits relative to its track width, plus a dynamic maneuver test.

Low sedans commonly earn five stars while tall SUVs and pickups settle at four. Electronic stability control, standard since 2012, has sharply cut real-world rollover crashes across all body types.
