All-wheel drive (AWD)
Power flows to all four wheels automatically, with no driver input needed.
All-wheel drive sends power to all four wheels and shifts it between them automatically as grip changes. There is nothing to switch on; the system reacts on its own in rain, snow, or loose surfaces.
It is the confidence option for bad-weather climates and the default on many SUVs. The costs are modest: extra weight typically trims fuel economy by 1 to 2 MPG versus the same car with two driven wheels.
From the data: Of the 19,491 trims in the Trimslate dataset, 5,928 are all-wheel drive.
