Miles per gallon equivalent: how far an EV travels on the energy in one gallon of gasoline.

MPGe (miles per gallon equivalent) translates electric efficiency into familiar terms: how far a vehicle travels on the amount of electricity that holds the same energy as one gallon of gasoline, about 33.7 kilowatt-hours.

Because electric motors waste far less energy than engines, MPGe figures look huge: efficient EVs exceed 130 MPGe. Use MPGe to compare EVs against each other; use cost per mile to compare an EV against a gasoline car.
