GVWR (gross vehicle weight rating)

The maximum safe total weight of the loaded vehicle: itself plus people and cargo.

GVWR is the maximum the fully loaded vehicle may safely weigh: the vehicle itself plus every passenger, all cargo, and the tongue weight of anything being towed. The manufacturer sets it based on brakes, axles, tires, and frame.

Subtract curb weight from GVWR and you get payload capacity. Exceeding GVWR strains brakes and tires, and it can void warranty claims and complicate insurance after an accident.
