Payload capacity
The total weight of passengers and cargo a vehicle can carry, GVWR minus curb weight.
Payload capacity is how much weight a vehicle can carry in people and cargo combined. It equals the gross vehicle weight rating minus the curb weight, so a heavier trim of the same truck carries less.
Payload fills up faster than people expect: five adults and a loaded bed can exceed a half-ton pickup's rating. Remember that a trailer's tongue weight, typically 10 to 15 percent of trailer weight, counts against payload too.
