Level 1 charging

Charging from a standard 120-volt household outlet. Slow: roughly 3 to 5 miles per hour.

Level 1 charging means plugging into an ordinary 120-volt household outlet using the cord most EVs include. It adds roughly 3 to 5 miles of range per hour, so an overnight session yields 30 to 50 miles.

That trickle is enough for short commutes and for most plug-in hybrids, whose batteries are small. For a full battery EV driven daily, most owners step up to Level 2 at home.
