Torque

Torque is the twisting force an engine produces, measured in pound-feet. It is what you feel as a shove in the back when you press the accelerator, and it is what does the heavy work of towing and hauling.

Diesel engines and electric motors are torque specialists. Electric motors deliver their full torque instantly from a standstill, which is why even modest EVs feel quick around town.
