Twincharged
An engine using both a supercharger and a turbocharger together.
A twincharged engine pairs a supercharger with a turbocharger. The supercharger provides instant response at low engine speeds, then the turbocharger takes over for efficiency and top-end power.
It is a rare and complex setup, used by a handful of makers such as Volvo to extract big power from very small engines. Complexity is the main drawback: more parts mean more that can eventually need repair.
