Body style

The vehicle's overall shape and type: sedan, SUV, hatchback, truck, van, or wagon.

Body style describes the vehicle's basic shape and layout: sedan, hatchback, SUV, pickup, van, wagon, coupe, or convertible. It is the first practical filter in any car search, since it sets seating, cargo, and ride height.

The lines blur at the edges; crossovers are SUVs built on car platforms, and some hatchbacks are marketed as coupes. Trimslate groups the EPA's raw labels into clean categories so a search for SUVs catches all of them.
